Overview

The Engaging the Private Sector to Contribute to Climate Change Mitigation was a 3-day event in Santiago, Chile focused on:

  • Skills training on finance fundamentals and financial structuring of NAMAs
  • Presentations from private and public sector representatives on various topics
  • Presentations by country representatives on experiences in engaging the private sector
  • A discussion panel on bringing the public and private sector together to support mitigation actions
  • Sectoral discussions on finance and scaling up mitigation actions
  • Plenary discussions to hear from others, clarify key issues and determine next steps

Objectives

  • Identify priority areas that may require more attention to enhance collaboration between the public and private sectors
  • Create a better understanding of the role and incentives of the private sector in NAMAs as implementers and investors
  • Discuss technical elements, institutional contexts, and consultation processes for the preparation of the contributions
  • Provide recommendations on the way forward to facilitate and encourage private sector involvement in mitigation actions
