The objective of the NAMA is to convert all existing, non-LED lighting systems to LED-based systems in the street lighting, public buildings, and residential buildings sectors by 2030 to significantly reduce public and private expenditure on lighting. The NAMA will also contribute to national energy efficiency targets and commitments to reduce national GHG emissions. Most of the Moldovan lighting infrastructure is outdated and will have to be replaced in coming years therefore a transition to LED lighting is considered as the best option. Complete NAMA implementation nationwide would result in emission reductions of 327,314 tCO2/year. In addition to cost savings, the initiative will result in health benefits notably due to reduced use of mercury in lighting systems and jobs created related to new system installation, sales, and maintenance.
