Chile committed not only to a reduction in the intensity of its CO2 emissions by at least 30% by 2030, the promotion of non-conventional renewable energies by promoting an energy efficiency law and reforesting 100,000 hectares of mainly native forest, but also defined 4 other pillars of climate action in addition to mitigation.

These pillars are: Adaptation, Capacity Building, Development and Transfer of Technologies, and Financing.

Minister Mena stated "With our commitment to the Paris Climate Agreement, we are clearly setting the type of development we want for Chile, and our first steps towards a green, low carbon growth that promotes clean and renewable technologies, begins with this National Action Plan for Climate Change 2017-2022. "

The action plan has 16 specific objectives and 30 action lines that are materialized in 96 measures, divided in four areas of action: adaptation, mitigation, means of implementation and management of climate change at regional and communal level.

Twenty public institutions participated in the project, and a public consultation was carried with technical and financial supported by the UNDP Low Emission Capacity Building Programme (LECB) -Chile, funded by the European Union and the Government of Germany. More than 1,200 observations and suggestions were collected.
