Programme Partners and Supporters
The NDC Support Programme is implemented in contribution to the NDC Partnership — a global coalition of 70+ institutions and organizations. The NDC Partnership aims at supporting countries to advance integrated climate and development actions. UNDP is a Steering Committee member and one of the founding partners, along with Germany, Spain, Morocco and the European Commission.
Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, & Nuclear Safety (BMU)
BMU is responsible for leading on Germany’s national environmental policy, and manage urban development, transport and buildings. The ministry supports the preparation of legal frameworks for the respective policy areas, funding for R&D, the market launch of innovative technologies, national and international cooperation, and public information and awareness campaigns. BMU has been a long-term partner on NDC and climate action, supporting both the NDC Support Programme and its predecessor, the UNDP Low Emission Capacity Development (LECB) Programme.
Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ)
The Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) is responsible for Germany's official development policy. The BMZ's task is to determine the objectives of German development policy, to negotiate with about 80 partner countries worldwide regarding bilateral cooperation, and to play a part in shaping multilateral cooperation. The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development adopted by the United Nations constitutes the international framework for Germany's development policy.
DG DEVCO | Implementing Directorate General
Within the European Commission, DG DEVCO reinforces the ability of the EU to design state-of-the-art development policy in order to reduce poverty around the world, to ensure sustainable economic, social and environmental development and to promote democracy, the rule of law, good governance and the respect of human rights, notably through external aid. In this context, DG DEVCO strives to enhance policy coherence for development while further improving implementation and delivery mechanisms for projects around the world.
DG CLIMA | Policy Directorate General
The Directorate-General for Climate Action ("DG CLIMA") leads the European Commission's efforts to fight climate change at EU and international level. Its mission is to formulate and implement climate policies and strategies, take a leading role in international negotiations on climate, implement the EU's Emissions Trading System (EU ETS), monitor national emissions by EU member countries and promote low-carbon technologies & adaptation measures.
The European Union has been a long-term partner, supporting the development of INDCs and mitigation actions under UNDP’s Low Emission Development (LECB) Programme. The EU is now working with the NDC Support Programme to advance NDC planning and implementation, in coordination with the NDC Partnership.
AECID | Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation
AECID, the main management body for the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation, aims at combating poverty and promoting sustainable human development, including all 17 sustainable development goals (SDGs). Spain has been a key partner of UNDP through various initiatives, especially through the UNDP-Spanish Latin America Programme on Climate Change during the last 10 years. The programme focused on supporting countries in their efforts to promote low emission development, adaptation measures, governance structures for climate change action and finance assessments to underpin investments.
