The objective of the event is to showcase country efforts to enhance NDCs while at the same time linking ambitious climate action with green COVID-19 recovery efforts. Global and regional trends on the NDC revision process to date will be presented, and countries will share their experiences around the NDC revision process, particularly in light of the global pandemic, and showcase their efforts in aligning their enhanced NDCs with national COVID-19 response and recovery efforts. The event is co-organized by UNDP and the NDC Partnership, in collaboration with UNFCCC, as part of the UN Climate Change Dialogues.
The Government of Ghana and Switzerland signed a bilateral agreement today, which brings the cooperative approaches of the Paris Agreement to life. The bilateral agreement sets the framework conditions for the cooperation. The first project foreseen will enable clean cooking and solar lighting and benefit up to five million Ghanaian households. The new partnership will enable the adoption of green and low carbon technology solutions across the country resulting in a plethora of social and environmental benefits.

Since leading as the world’s first sovereign Green Sukuk issuer in 2018 the Ministry of Finance has raised more than US$2.75 billion from three annual issuances. The proceeds have financed and re-financed projects in renewable energy, energy efficiency, sustainable transportation, waste to energy and waste management, as well as climate resilience for vulnerable areas.
Small countries lack scale - so how can they take ambitious climate action? This blog presents a new way of thinking on how to improve NDC implementation efficiency across national boundaries based on regional cooperation to track implementation.The MRV Hub works with ten independent island nations and two independent mainland countries who have pledged to work individually and collectively to track NDC indicators, share data and raise climate ambition.
The quality assurance checklist is designed to support governments, civil society, and other stakeholders to reflect on the revision processes and outcomes of their Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs). The guiding questions are derived from the Paris Agreement, the IPCC Special Report on Warming of 1.5C, and the WRI-UNDP Guidance on the NDC revision process, as well as UNDP’s experience supporting countries on NDC design, revision and implementation.
